Modelling fast pyrolysis of biomass in a fluidized bed reactor

Abstract A compartmental one‐dimensional model of a fluidized bed pyrolytic converter biomass is presented. Reference conditions are those non‐catalytic fast pyrolysis in shallow with external regeneration the material. The fate and resulting char has been modelled by considering elutriation particles, attrition as well drain/regeneration. course primary secondary pyrolitic reactions according to semi‐lumped reaction network using well‐established kinetic parameters taken from literature. specific focus present study role heterogeneous volatile–char reactions, whose rate borrowing expression neighbouring area tar adsorption/decomposition over char. results computations highlight relevance closely associated control loading bed. sensitivity reactor performance attrition, proper management drain/regeneration, gas phase backmixing demonstrated. Model provide useful guidelines for optimal design pyrolyzers pinpoint future research priorities.
